troubleshooting help
« on: 05/11/11 10:04PM »
Undetermined hard acceleration the gsxr was reving odd. It was quickly climbing rpm but then the engine would catch up to the rev and continue like normal. It stays in gear, dosent jump out and it isn't rough. Just not synched with the motor. I think clutch is failing. Help?

Have you tried going to 6th gear at a low speed and dumping clutch??? If its your clutch the motor will rev......if your clutch is fine the bike will lug and try to power itself up to speed. Let me know what your schedule is and I can come take a crack at it.

I did today. It lugs, no slips. But still has the problem in higher rpms with engine trying to catch up.

How old are the plugs? Is the fuel fresh? If the clutch is not slipping and the bike "bucks" under acceleration, I would suspect a clogged fuel filter. Is there rust in the tank?

It dosent buck its a smooth transition. I just replaced fuel pump recently and it was riding smooth. I just changed plugs, they were black. I had to put a little 87 in, long story, but I know that all ran through. Think these could affect it?

No. See what happens after you adjust the clutch.

Could also be battery, coils/plug wires, stator.

^ u know what I was thinking the same thing. It hasn't been too long since a change, I'm usually good about it, but I have been riding hard the past few times. I am gonna change oil and adjust clutch this weekend.

Ok so I changed oil and adjusted my clutch yesterday. Went on a nice ride around town, the bike was running fine. Then on my home I hit some back roads. Once I started to get aggressive the bike started bucking and misfiring bad. I got home and ripped it apart and found that my plugs I just changed are wet with oil. I guess this means my piston rings or valves are blown? Any help on this subject would help, I don't want to buy parts to replace if it isn't the problem. Anyone had experience with this issue?

I have 2 options.1- buy the necessary parts, fix the issues and hope it solves the problem.2- I have access to a motor with 19k and some upgrades for $1000 I can purchase, then part out my old motor. I don't know if this would be worth all the money and time though. Suggestions? Thanks guys. I'm getting frustrated with this bike right now.

A compression and leak down test would be in order.
