all of rnickeymouse videos are great to watch because they show every type of mistake made. in certain videos you can see bad body position or late braking. I find them to be a great learning utensil and a good reminder to always be heads up

It's been four years (almost exactly) since I took the MSF course, but I'm pretty sure I remember the mantra, "push left, lean left, go left." Leaning is not independent of turning. During the figure-eight exercise, you're taught that counter-leaning is necessary at slow speed to keep the bike balanced. At speed, however, you're supposed to lean into the turn.
press left, LOOK left, go left. I just took mine in May. Because in the figure eight they are constantly telling you to turn your head the direction you want to go. If you turn your head the way you wanna go, you WILL go that way.

I just found my book and I'm sorry, you are correct in what the Book says, although my instructor told me otherwise! The book DOES say: in most situations you and the motorcycle should lean together. However, for slow, tight turns like a u turn in a parking lot, use a counter weight technique by leaning your upper body toward the outside of the turn. Putting more pressure on the outside footrest can help too. Turn your head and look where you want to go. Turn the handlebars more in the direction you want to go for slower, tighter turns.

press left, LOOK left, go left.

Ahh ok, I guess I remember that one wrong. Thanks for the refresher. :)

No Mark you were right on that one too! It says that in the book too. He did tell me to tho, (my instructor) that my body should lean independent of the bike...I even texted him and asked him again and this is what he said: " Remember it's press to initiate lean, riders try to make the bike lean with 'their weight' wrong! Ur body may lean some.  Ur body should still be independent"

Even though in my book, it does state otherwise....

I see his point, and other than, "Ur body should still be independent," I agree with him. Thanks for looking into it further.

great post!

first vid, target fixation, crazy action on the rear brake rather than "look, lean, believe". He was not going to fast to negotiate the turn... well I haven't seen that turn in person. too many crash vides to know for sure!

second vid, tooo much tire pressure combined with a stupid lean angle. front end washed out... or maybe it just looked like a comfortable place to take a nap. anyone remember the jerky boys line, "he hit me so hard my shoes fell off"? asphalt is hard folks!

third vid, TL;DR... I'll come back to it ... maybe
